The August 10th issue of The Boston Globe included this Letter to the Editor from Eileen Ryan, spokesperson from Beyond Plastics Greater Boston:
“The climate crisis will not wait. How does the Legislature justify its inaction? During the past 19 months, the entire timeline of the 2023-24 legislative session, climate activists organized advocacy days, forums, and postcard- and letter-writing campaigns. We held meetings with senators and representatives, attended and spoke up at hearings, and stood outside the State House calling attention to the climate crisis. We held demonstrations and gave speeches. Some were even arrested for calling attention to climate concerns, such as at Hanscom Field in Bedford in April.
Lawmakers know that Massachusetts is suffering one of the hottest summers on record as a result of the burning of fossil fuels, and yet they failed to pass any climate legislation (“Mass. prides itself on being a leader on climate issues. So what happened to the climate bill?” Sabrina Shankman, BostonGlobe.com, Aug. 3). These times call for urgent climate action yet all we see on Beacon Hill is inaction.”
