Mothers Out Front Boston has provided a toolkit for action on behalf of S.2105/H.3203, the Just Transition to Clean Energy, H.4439 and the Gas Moratorium, S.2135 H.3238 bills. There are just two steps:
Action #1: Email your state legislators and ask them to support three bills: The Future of Clean Heat S.2105 H.3203, the Just Transition to Clean Energy, H.4439 and the Gas Moratorium, S.2135 H.3238 bills.
Action #2: Email your Boston City Councilors and ask them to resolve to develop a strategic plan to triage and transition to clean heat equitably.
Bonus Action: Share with friends.
DO IT NOW with these two email templates, adapted as you’d like:
Dear Senator or Representative <Last Name of Legislator>,
Natural gas is making our climate more unstable, polluting the air, and has deadly consequences when it explodes. I am concerned we are not doing enough work to avert the worst of the climate crisis. We need laws that help us to transition away from climate-warming, polluting gas in homes, towards clean heat.
Please support:
- Future of Clean Heat S.2105 H.3203 which allows gas utilities to sell clean thermal heat, in addition to gas
- An Act Relative to the Just Transition to Clean Energy, H4439, which ensures that union workers have family sustaining jobs and the apprenticeship opportunities they need to support a clean energy future
- A Moratorium on New Gas System Expansion S.2135 H.3238, prohibits the Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) from approving construction permits for new “combustible fuel facilities,” except those required for the safety of the public
Thank you for taking action on these important bills. We can’t wait another two years for these important changes.
Sincerely,
Your name and address

RE: Resolution for a just transition to clean heat
Dear President Louijeune, and Councilors Santana, Mejia, Murphy, Coletta Zapata, Weber, and <<Add Last Name of District Councilor here>>,
I am very concerned about the climate crisis and the need for a just transition to clean energy. The City of Boston should ensure the transition away from gas is equitable for unions, ratepayers, and all Boston residents, including vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
While the road for how to transition away from polluting gas is unchartered at the municipal level, we hope Boston will pass a resolution similar to the resolution passed unanimously by the City of Somerville resolving to create a strategic plan for a just transition to clean heat. Here is a link to the City of Somerville resolution.
We appreciate your attention to this important work.
Sincerely,
